Aromatherapy by Katherine Enskat
Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils to promote a positive state of health in mind and body.
The oils are extracts from plant sources known to contain particular properties. (The flowers, leaves, bark or roots of specific botanical species are used) .
Each oil has its own unique character, set of therapeutic properties and smell. They can be stimulating, sedative, uplifting or balancing in nature, for example.
Following a brief consultation the oils are blended in a base oil, to create an individual, therapeutic mix tailored to suit your needs and applied to the skin in massage.
The oils can be used to address specific health issues as well as to promote relaxation and relief from stress.
The effects of aromatherapy are often subtle as well as profound, building up over time as the oils influence the various bodily systems.
It is usual to experience improvements in sleep quality, mood, energy levels from the 1 st treatment, however a course of treatment is recommended for maximum benefit.
The benefits of Aromatherapy are the same as for massage generally, however there are certain complaints particularly suited to treatment with essential oils these include:
- Inflammatory skin problems such as eczema
- Menstrual irregularities and P.M.S
- Stress related disorders like insomnia, headaches or anxiety
- Digestive problems like I.B.S, sluggish digestion or constipation
- Problems related to depleted immune function
